Some of you know that I have been actively studying Robert Bandler's techniques and some self hypnosis.
I am actually considering changing my affirmations for the next bit of Holosync to encompass some hypnotic language for the changes I'd like to achieve. Now I know many of you advocate no affirmations, and that's fine. For those that opt to include them, what do you think of the concept of overloading the subconscious with hypnotic suggestions as affirmations? I'm thinking it's worth the extra fee to play with the idea.

Hi SO,
I'm glad you're enjoying the book. I agree it seems like a recap of LPIP. It does help cement it for me in a deeper way, and I think some of Bandler's exercises give me a better grasp on what Harris was/is trying to convey in LPIP. I've heard that he's considering ending offering LPIP as his focus seems to be changing. I think that would be a pity, as it is the first personal development offering that's actually given me some tangible results (not including Holosync since that, in my opinion, is more passive than active).
I've still to tailor my self-hypnosis affirmations, but I'm thinking it may do a bit more than my regular affirmations.
I believe that having hypnotic suggestions can only be a good/supportive thing! From a value perspective I can only imagine that the benefits would be priceless.Excellent idea!
Would you mind sharing an example of a hypnotic suggestion you are thinking of?

Having hung out with Richard I disagree with your conclusions. He is a bit of a rascal, and he can be an ass. But, So am I. Deep down inside he is one of the larger teddy bears I have got to know.
His bullshit detector installation alone has saved me enormous grief.
As for the Wiki article. Remember that if you ever rate an article on Wiki, that people who don't care for you will get to will have full access to write what they will.
I have this refigerator magnet that says, "Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them you're a mile away and you have their shoes".
Apparently this discussion was thrown way off course. What started out as a discussion on NLP and subliminals, quickly turned to one person's dark moment as if his contributions to helping others isn't enough, he is suppose to be above human as well. If he is an "asshole", then we are all assholes. If he is a "sociopath", the we are all sociopaths. We are all capable of the lowest of lows and the highest of highs a human being can produce, because it is in us. To criticize another, is to criticize ourselves. Until you accept that, how else can you possibly be free.
This reminded me of a story Joe Vitale wrote about. He gives tremendous credit of his spiritual growth to his coach and friend of ten years. He called him his miracle worker. But Joe says that his mentor's success went to his head and his ego, and he went on to manipulate and then to have inappropriate relationships with female clients. He then slipped into depression when his father died and Joe had to use the same techniques he learned from his him, his coach, to help him avert suicide. This guru of his eventually rebounded only to again give into into his human weakenss and he went on to manipulate and then abuse a good female friend of Joe's.
You can imagine how confused that must have made Joe V. How could a person with these fantastic tools that help Joe create such miraculous results in his life, succumb to the worst aspects of being human. What it came down to was much like what SO said about Bill, would anything that he did that would be viewed as offensive lessen his contributions he has made to society with Holosync? No, of course not.
Joe offers this excellent advice; "Trust your intuition, and not become addicted to the healing or the healer. The goal is freedom. The only path is your connection to Spirit".
I've noticed over a period of time that this happens on a regular basis...about once every two months...It's ridiuclous and immature. It always involves the same people...Can't this stop...can you guys control yourselves...I come in here for answers to my questions, uplifting material....not this stuff. SO...you could have left well enough alone. I honestly think I'm going to stop coming in here. I will always do HS....have invited others to join this forum and talk about their HS experiences...and people are put off by some in this forum...geez...
But I do admit to one thing. I very rarely visit here because its always the same ppl with the same ole stuff just reworded. I found some other places that are really exciting

GWW,
I can use words to create visual and kinesthetic ideas. If I ask you to remember what color your room was when you were 10, you have to see a picture in your head to remember it. If I ask you what a handful of sand feels like, don't you have to remember a kinesthetic feeling?
Bandler may well have been and still be an asshole. It doesn't change the fact that this is the first time in my life I have been able to change my behavior. I'm interested in results. I've been friends with plenty of assholes and I'm sure there's a few people who think I'm one. I read your link. I'm sure many incredibly creative people who've contributed a great deal to society were real jerks and not very good personalities. Does it lessen their contributions?

All I wanted was a meaningful exchange. Not an explosion of anger. I apologize for any way in which I may have contributed to the deterioration of this thread. I am also considering the merits of leaving. I have no desire to take part in backbiting or gossip or assassination of character. I have enough faults of my own.
I am going back to lurking until I can make up my mind.
Lisa - Are you using the affirmations now on your HS tracks and if so, do you believe they are helpful? Can you give us a taste of what you mean by "hypnotic suggestions"? I have affirmations on my HS tracks but I can't say for sure what their impact is...if any..whether positive, neutral, or negative. But I"d be very interested in hearing your opinion if you do in fact decide to include them in your HS. But if you do have positive experience(s) as a result, on what basis or facts would you link those positive experiences to the hypnotic suggestions as opposed to something else in your life?
Personally, I have no opinion of the effect of affirmations as I've never really studied the science much. I do believe that affirmations could help if you practice them daily in front of a mirror or someting along those lines. But in subliminals???? I"m not sure. I just don't know how you can base good or bad experiences or improvement on subliminals. What data would you point too that would support the subliminals are the reason for improvement or it's opposite?

My Spirit,
yes, I am currently using affirmations and yes I believe they are helping. What proof do I have? Well, I know that one of the things I say in my affirmations is that happiness is my natural state. I do find it easier to find contentment and happiness these days. Can I point to it as the one and only piece that put it there? No. Does it matter? Not to me.
If I were on a diet and going to the gym and drinking more water and saying affirmations and I lost weight and improved my overall physical health, would it matter which of the items contributed the most? I think it all helps. From what you eat, to how you work out, and how you take care of your body. If all the steps and methods are stacked in personal growth, even if the benefit is negligible, to me it's worth it, because it makes me more aware of what I want. Anything I can add to shift my focus on what I do want is a benefit to me.
I'm still studying hypnotic language, so I have no examples for you at this point, but it has to do (from what I'm reading) with overwhelming the subconscious - you basically confuse your thoughts in order to interrupt the automatic patterns, thereby making the mind more suggestible. At least, this is how I understand it so far. If I end up using it in my affirmations, I may post an example or two.

I loved your answer just now, Lisa, because it sounds like you know exactly what would work for you.
By contrast, if I went to the gym every day, drank lots of water, went on a diet and recited affirmations... but.. I didn't lose weight... does that mean it wouldn't work for you? (maybe I went to the gym, stared at the equipment and affirmed that I'd never lose a pound, then went for wings and beer... but I didn't relay that part to you)
The point you made is the basis of any change... where's your focus? If nothing else, taking the time to read your affirmations occaisionally, or rewrite them, will at the very least show you where your focus is right now. If you're discovering how words or suggestions influence you, and you feel excited and motivated with that information, it would probably be a mistake not to give it a try... because your subconscious after all, came up with the idea in the first place. If you ignore it, what are you now focusing on? In your own words "I'm thinking it's worth the extra fee to play with the idea. "
