I just wanted to pass along a recommendation for reading. It's called Lessons from the Light by Kenneth Ring. A truly amazing book that I hope each of you get a chance to read. He's a very good writer, extremely knowledgeable about Near Death Experiences case histories and related topics. I can't emphasize enough how much I've learned and how much of an impact this book has/will make on me in terms of how I live my life and how I treat/deal with others.

I highly recommend it and I hope someone here gets a chance to read it.

Thanks MS, I think I will pick up Lessons from the Light. First, I'll see if the library network has it in my area.

Ever since seeing that BBC documentary on NDE's, I've become fascinated about this whole subject. I then read Life After Life and I am convinced that we are simply spirits traveling around in a human form, but we're also subject to all the limitations of what it means to be human - mostly the genetic makeup and the egoic mind. Before I was so frightened of my own death, now I try to remind myself as often as possible it's just the end of this particular trip. What is more accurate is the ego is fearful of its own demise. When I now hear of people dying, what I now see are spirits transitioning. What I also see are egos mourning over the end of another's spirit's personality, i.e., their mask or ego. That's how I truly see it and it's refreshing to look at it that way.

I just finished reading The Holographic Universe. Wow, very interesting. In one of the chapters it talks about NDE's and also OBE (out of body experiences) and how the two are very similar. I hadn't realized that OBEs were as common as they are. Some OBE'rs have traveled to places that NDE'rs have reported. Pretty cool.

Also, in the afterlife, learning is emphasized. Education, for whatever reason, is highly regarded. So, thanks again, ME. I'll be sure to check out the book.

All true Frank.

And probably the biggest impact this book has given me, is the importance of the Life Review. How every second of your life, every thought, every word ever spoken and every action ever taken or not taken, is reviewed in an "instant" (remember Time is an illusion) and in the presence of a "Being" or "Divine Light" that brings an indescribable amount of love to the process to help you thru it. And from this review you experience not only everything you said/did but the emotions that went along with it AND the emotions of all those involved and the iimpact on their lives and their associates.

And yes...it' is all about learning. That message is conveyed time and time again. Learning and Loving others which comes full circle to loving yourself as the book will explain. It's basically lays out for you in simple terms why we are here, what we are here to learn, and what's truly important in Life and how you live it.

Regarding the possibility of remembering earthly emotions in your afterlife, I think Michael Talbot, author of Holographic Universe, described it similarly to a person who has lost a limb. In their mind, that limb is still present. Or, if sitting in your chair looking straight ahead, you can sense where your right foot though you're not looking at it.

Also, as I understandit, the review of your life is not so much to do with damnation or praise, but for the essence of continual learning and improving. Is that about right?

Well, our library system does't have the book, but a local Barnes & Nobel does, so I've sent a request to place it on hold. I did read some of the reviews and it looks just great.

I see there's another book Lessons From The Light with a different subtitle (Extraordinary Messages of Comfort and Hope from the Other Side) written back in 2000. That's a little confusing, i.e., two books with the same title. But my local BN also had that one too, so I'll check that one out as well.

Absolutely. Spot on. The emphasis was that there was no-judgement. More specifically, if there was any judgement, it was you judging yourself. And it is absolutely all about continual learning. Learning what you did right and wrong and feeling the emotions on BOTH sides (the giver and receiver) is what really drives home the learning process. There is no judgement. Just pure love beyond description regardless of the type of person you were on earth.

Thank you for the link Theist. I quickly went through some of the articles. Fascinating stuff.

There is one part I don't grasp . It was a guy stating his experience. He speaks of being in spirit form yet describes being afraid. How can spirit have that?

Hey Paul ..."Bhodi bookstore" put a smile on my face. I remember Oprah always skyping the ppl at Bhodi's when she did ANE with Tolle.

That is a great mystery, isn't it Q? I think it goes back to the earlier example of an amputee still feeling their lost limb. Where does that feeling reside? Almost all NDE's feel they are still in human form, though they are only sources of light. Also, you continually hear of NDE's that do not want to return to their earthly body. Why would they care unless they have some conception of feeling?

Then there's the stories about spirits that linger here on earth. What might a paranormal investigator do? He/she might tell this spirit to "go toward the light". Why wouldn't that "ghost" have done that on its own? Maybe afraid?

We should have another thread on ghost sightings, angels in our lives and stuff like that. That would be very cool, imo.

QSS, it's such a great PLACE. The energy you feel in there is completely ridiculous (in a GOOD way, that is)... you just wanna stay there for hours at a time. Literally.

Aaahhhhhhhh -- the Bhodi Tree. Paul--you take me back! I went there once or twice on trips to LA many many many years ago, when such books were cataloged as "occult," and "esoteric," and that store was such a find. Wonder if it's still in the same place (not that I remember where that was).
